Award Winning Chiropractic Care in Manhattan & Springfield
Dr David Perna Chiropractor
Dr. Dave Perna is known for chiropractic services, which are an excellent alternative to invasive procedures. Chiropractic care is completely noninvasive and can be used to treat a wide range of neuromusculoskeletal conditions in those of all ages. Before chiropractic treatment, patients may experience pain in the joints, neck, back, or even head and are very likely to experience relief following the adjustment. Spinal manipulation is perhaps the most common chiropractic service, working to alleviate pain in the back. With the help of a skilled chiropractor, you can also experience relief from chronic lower back pain, as well as pain in the neck or headaches. Dr David Perna chiropractor is available at both his Back & Body locations in New York and New Jersey.
What Chiropractors Can Treat
With a simple chiropractic adjustment, you can treat a wide range of issues. Most people visit the chiropractor for back or neck pain, while many also visit this medical professional to treat headaches. Chiropractic adjustments have also been shown to help with joint pain, arthritis, scoliosis, blood pressure, asthma, and ear infections.
Before the Adjustment
Before your chiropractic treatment begins, Dr. Perna will take the time to thoroughly examine you, as this ensures an accurate diagnosis and allows him to determine which adjustments are ideal for your situation. He may also recommend additional chiropractic treatments to complement the adjustments. You will not be approved for chiropractic adjustments if you have severe osteoporosis, spinal instability, cancer of the spine, tingling or numbness in a leg or arm, or a higher risk of stroke, but the procedure is completely safe for most people.
What to Expect During Your Chiropractic Adjustment
Duringyour treatment session, Dr. Perna will manually manipulate or adjust the areas that are affected, with a focus on the back and joints, as well as any injured tissues. In most cases, your chiropractic adjustment will involve your chiropractor using a short lever arm thrust with a high velocity on a targeted vertebra. You will likely hear a release of gas during this process, which is known as joint cavitation and is completely normal. This sound occurs due to the release of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and oxygen, a combination thatleads to the release of pressure in the joint. Most patients experience immediate relief, but you may notice very minor discomfort for several minutes, although that always passes quickly.
Following Your Adjustment
Although rare, some people will have minor discomfort in the treated area, fatigue, or headaches after the adjustment. This will go away very quickly. Any soreness should not last over 24 hours, and it can go away even more quickly by icing the area. Your chiropractor may suggest other at-home treatments, such as applying heat, stretching, massage, or exercise.
